The Emerging 8K, 4K and More
Screen sizes are constantly expanding, with resolution improving to keep up. One of our partners, Sony, showed off their MASTER series 8K and 4K HDR televisions, available in 85 and 98-inch models. 8K attracts theater-owners who crave the latest and greatest technology but is still catching up in terms of available content. Meanwhile, 4K is enjoying a resurgence, with more content than ever and continually improved models, like Sony’s A8G BRAVIA OLED 4K TV -- while projector fans can’t miss their ES 4K HDR line-up.
Sony also rolled out its new Crystal LED displays to the residential market. These models feature more than a million-to-one contrast, HDR and pristine color reproduction. Viewers also enjoy the 180-degree viewing angle, high frame rate and HDR -- ideal features for media rooms where people huddle around the screen, instead of right in front of it, or want the most lifelike gameplay or sports viewing.
Updated Audio
If you took one step inside a CEDIA sound room this year, you could practically feel the excitement in the air as demonstrators sampled various movies and music for eager listeners. Participants enjoyed seeing vintage music devices, like vinyl players, transformed for 2019. Continuing a trend from previous years, CEDIA’s new audio systems marries new and old, with receivers playing turntable-produced music to any room in the house.
Earlier expos revealed design-savvy outdoor speakers disguising themselves as rocks and planters. Though those are still popular, some current designs have mastered camouflage: textured grills allow today’s speakers to meld with granite and shrubbery, making them almost invisible against your landscape or your home’s exterior.
Wellness and Lighting
Wellness offered a welcome balance to the sometimes overstimulating, media-packed expo floor. The Delos “Wellness Pavilion” invited show-goers to get off their feet with zero-gravity chairs. Purified air, human-centric lighting, guided meditations and eye masks enhanced the experience. If you’re looking for multi-purposing your entertainment space, Sterling Home Technologies can help you recreate the magic and set a trend, using Dolby-Atmos enabled surround sound and relaxing theater furniture.
Meanwhile in lighting, Vantage showed off several light settings, from “Homework” to “Goodnight,” all powered by an EasyTouch Glass modular keypad. Lutron also gave a live demonstration of how lighting transforms right when you’re ready to watch a movie.
